Religion.
It is one of the most important issues in my country. A lot of people in my country takes religion very seriously. My country has a lot of different cultures and its people takes pride in it, despite the occasional racism. Still, what's society without racism, eh?
The thing is, I just got this one feeling that some people are deliberately condemning other people religion. For example, the Protestant may say that Catholicism is wrong and vice versa. In fact, I just had the same argument with my sister the other day. My sister insisted that Protestant is the right one, while I tried to argue back that none of them is right and none of them is wrong. If you believe one, then keep your faith and stop saying other people religion is wrong. You too, after all, don't want people to say that your religion is wrong, do you?
Still, it might not be astonishing at all that my sister have that kind of thought. I had heard that it was her religion teacher that told her so. I was extremely appalled by this. I study at a quite prestigious Christian school, and I can't believe that a religion teacher is allowed to tell their students that their own religion is the right one and other religion is wrong. Was she aware that there were Catholic students inside that class? In the past, that one statement could've caused a war. This might be one of the factors that made me feel strongly against religion in school subjects.
I must say that while religious education at young age is essential, it is not completely necessary to continuously infuse young children with religious belief. Let them simply know about it, the point of them studying religion. And I feel that school is not the right place to preach as well. Teachers might say that they are not biased, but you never know. Accidents can happen. What the religion teacher said to my sister's class may also have been a complete slip of tongue.
This is however, merely an opinion of mine.
I would like to thank you who have read to the very end. If any of the thing I state above is offensive to you, I sincerely apologise. I assure you, this text is not posted for the purpose of hurting anyone, it is merely to state my opinion. Any offensive statements I made are completely unintentional. Thank you very much.
